BRIEF BACKGROUND SUMMARY:Ando worked with Hiro in Japan. Despite being his best friend he was the skeptic of his powers. The "Scully" if you will to his excited and wild partner who claimed he could bend time and space. Ando asked for proof later on at a bar and Hiro teleports into a girls bathroom to show him. Ando still isn't convinced. He tells Hiro to stop trying to be special and a week later Hiro calls him from New York City, only his week is Ando's five. Ando finally accepts Hiro's powers after being shown a comic book featuring them as the main characters. Later on Ando convinces Hiro to cheat in Las Vegas to win some money. They're beaten up by the card sharks and even worse get into an argument that splits them apart. Ando left to meet up with Niki Sanders, a stripper he used to watch online at home in Japan. He realizes they have no relationship, nothing together and he returns to Hiro to help him with his mission. The two separate again and Ando waits at the diner while Hiro tries to save a waitress' life who he fell in love with. Peter comes to get Hiro, but hes still not back from the past and finds Ando still waiting. Ando says that he can't do much without him. Peter goes anyway. When Hiro returns the two of them go to meet Issac the painter and see his paintings of the future.

Two weeks later, they visit New York museum of Natural History to examine a sword once owned by an ancient swordsmen Takezo Kensei Hiro was told stories of as a child by his father, that he believed would help him control his powers just as the samurai had done in the past. They find out that the sword is a fake, return it to the museum and it leads them to Linderman. They return the sword and pick up one of Issac's paintings to trade for the sword because he is a collector.

Ando is looking for his hope, and in Las Vegas he finds it. But it's in the form of a show girl named Hope who tricks the pair into stealing her bag back for her from an abusive lover. They get into his room while undercover as hotel room service. Hiro finds a weapon and says they should leave right away-Ando still wants to search. He searches and locks Hiro out of the room. Hiro goes back to the show girl while Ando gets the bag. Ando returns to find out that the show girl says Hiro went onto Linderman without him and Ando goes with her. He's shot in the arm during a shootout between Hope and Steve Gustavson. Hiro tells him to return to Japan.

Ando doesn't listen. Instead he goes undercover as one of Lindermans guards to help Hiro recover the sword. The other guards are aware of the theft and Hiro and Ando teleport to post-apocalyptic New York City where Future Hiro is waiting for them.

Ando tells Hiro that he has to kill Sylar in order to stop the bomb, but Hiro doesn't believe in killing. He then goes on to tell Hiro that if he doesn't, Ando will die. Hiro unsuccessfully tries to kill Sylar. Ando fears his friend is losing his faith and goes to find and kill Sylar himself. And that is where Ando comes into play.

Ando comes from beginning "5 Years Gone" Season 1 .
